Yuko Akai is a marine biologist with a taste for adventure. When she is asked to be a part of a project to explore the last body of untouched water on Earth – Lake Vostok in Antarctica, buried under three kilometers of ice, untouched for millions of years – she is very excited, but she soon begins to think that she may have bitten off a bit more than she can chew, especially when it is revealed that the project may develop into an expedition into space.
