Awake

My foot’s asleep and my knee’s too weak to hold my weight right now
And this body’s too tired for words
Lack of sleep and too much alcohol has fucked up my nervous system
And I have no balance and no concentration
And my focus is off

But I’m awake now, for the first time in far too long
It doesn’t matter what you say
Cause the drugs in your brain
Have made you insane
But right now I’m wide awake

The voices in my head have told me I should stop now
But my own voice speaks far too softly
And my mouth is dry and it’s a long time since I cried
Except last night I felt all right
Can’t see too well…

And I’m awake now, for the first time in far too long
And it doesn’t matter what you say
Cause the drugs in your brain
Have made you insane
But right now I’m wide awake

Don’t make me sleep again
Cause the dreams are too much
And the voices return
And I still can’t deal
And there’s nothing left
And you can’t see
And anyway, what was I saying?

But I’m awake now, for the first time in far too long
It doesn’t matter what you say
Cause the drugs in your brain
Have made you insane
But right now I’m wide awake

You can’t innovate without an understanding of who you are and what write an essay you want to become
